The Oriana Singers, Chicago's classic and fun a cappella ensemble, has a number of educational programs to fit into any series, presenter's, or institutional program. Programs can stand alone, or be added to concert presentations. The Oriana Singers are represented on the Illinois Arts Council Arts Tour roster. Full concert
The Oriana Singers' regular program includes a full range of a cappella music from classic to fun. Concerts are roughly 90 minutes including intermission, and include repertoire selected by Artistic Director William Chin. Some input on repertoire from presenters can be entertained.
Children's concerts
The Oriana Singers perform selections from their three original children's cassettes for Ladybug magazine. Titled Sing Along with Ladybug, the concert features both familiar and new children's songs, audience interaction, and brief musical lessons. For preschool through grade 2.
Rehearsal showcase
A peek behind the scenes at the preparation and discussion that goes into the ensemble's music. The singers will work on music at all stages of preparation from initial reading to fine tuning on a variety of musical styles. Host may provide a specific piece of appropriate music for the ensemble to prepare. Workshop can be adapted to any age group.
Curtain talk
Pre-concert discussion by Director William Chin about the repertoire to be performed, including history, performance techniques, etc.
Lecture/demonstration
The full ensemble presents examples of the numerous musical styles which the group performs, ranging from chant to Broadway. Director William Chin and ensemble members discuss repertoire selection, programming, rehearsal technique, and history of the music. For any age group.
Careers in the Arts
Ensemble members, Director William Chin, and manager Alexandra Nelson (if available) discuss the inner workings of a nonprofit musical organization. Careers discussed include music management, conducting, voice careers including opera, ensemble, chorus, and popular forms. For middle school through college.
Master class
William Chin and the ensemble lead a selected group of singers through a rehearsal, learning techniques of pitch, tuning, sight reading, and style. For high school, college, and adult semi-professional only, this program can be offered as a single workshop or in a longer residency format. For longer residencies, presenter may also choose to present a joint concert of master class participants with the ensemble. Requires some advance preparation. |
