The World Turned Upside Down
The relationship between words and music has defined vocal
music through the ages. But is there common ground across
the breadth of what is called Early Music?
This semi-staged concert explores dramatic and narrative
music from four centuries with stories of worlds turned
upside down. The EMC vocal ensemble, featuring some of Chicago’s
finest early music singers, presents music by celebrated
medieval poet and composer Machaut, narrative Renaissance
madrigals, and Carissimi’s groundbreaking oratorio
Jephte.
EMC Vocal Ensemble, with members of The Oriana Singers
and Schola Antiqua of Chicago; Michael Alan Anderson,
William
Chin, and Andrew Fredel, directors.
